Fox Sports Game Trax

Game Trax is a static representation of a live sporting event. I worked with Fox Sports to create Game Trax for their five major sports, with a focus on UFC. This needed to be a second screen experience compatible on phone and tablet. Below are some of the initial sketches for their major sports.

I was the lead designer on the project responsible for the research, ideation, wires and visuals.

UFC Game Trax

A couple of weeks into the project, Fox Sports purchased the television rights to the UFC. My focus switched from the other sports and turned to the UFC.

Research

After conducting research and communicating with UFC fans, I came up with three main feature requests.  They wanted to see knockouts/highlights, punches thrown vs landed and where those punches landed.

UFC Sketch

In this sketch I had to represent each position grappling, standing and ground. I also had to represent punches trowen vs landed and where they landed. All while keeping the same astetic as the other sports.

For round three of the wires we added a social tab, a scrubbable timeline, more detailed fighter stats and a more dynamic punch location indicator.

Fight DNA

Fight Metrics joined the Fox Sports team. They are the worlds only comprehensive mixed martial arts statistics and analysis provider. With the ability to track punches down to the second we could now tell if a fighter threw a combo or not. Combos are represented by a line and a dot. For every punch thrown within that combo the dot moves further right. Thus fight DNA was born. Below were some of the options presented to Fox Sports for fight DNA.

Fight Stats

The stats tab had to show punching and submission stats. The first representation of those stats was selected because it was easier to compare the two fighters stats. This would paint a better picture of how close or not the fight was.

Fight Card

Multiple fight card options were presented but ultimately the one with the images of the fighters was selected. This fell more in line with Fox Sports in your face brand.
